When I heard about Girls Make Games, I knew I had to track down the founder and talk to them about this wonderful project. For a long time, I didn’t hear back from Laila, and grew concerned that perhaps a youth camp didn’t want to associate with a podcast named ‘Bitch Team Alpha’. While at PAX Prime, I heard from several people (every time I pitched Ladies of Industry, in fact) that Girls Make Games had a booth there, and that I should definitely go talk to them. When I found the booth, I approached Laila apprehensively and told her about the podcast, apologizing for repeating the message that I’d spammed her through email. Fortunately for me, she was not in fact ignoring me, but is just an incredibly busy person, and my email had gone right to her junkmail. Of course, being the incredible person that she is, she was excited and agreed to come on the show. Just goes to show that sometimes, even if you’re worried you’re being annoying, be persistent with your goals until you’re actually told to buzz off. And maybe not even then.
“Girls Make Games is a series of international summer camps, workshops and game jams designed to encourage girls to explore the world of video games.”
