I want to be just like Adriel when I grow up. Adriel’s life, as I understand it, is wandering from place to place (generally, convention to convention) supporting the gaming community by organizing things like Train Jam, all the while working on creating her own videogames. Seriously, how badass is that? She’s a programmer by trade (again, after my own heart) and uses her mad computer science skills to help support her roaming lifestyle when videogames don’t quite cut it. We met by chance at PAX; I was wandering around from booth to booth asking after more female gamedevs, and I happened upon a vendor that she was hanging around in front of. Said vendor promptly pointed right at her and said simply “Her. Talk to her.” I’m very pleased I did, and I have now updated my dream job to ‘Wandering Gamedev.’ Also, Train Jam sounds awesome, so if you’re planning to go to GDC and want to take a train from Chicago to get there and spend the whole time developing videogames with a bunch of badasses, you should go sign up. Nowish.
